UPDATE: (12/4/11) OccupySFMedia’s video of what went down on 12/1/11, including more police brutality by SFPD.
When I passed by around 11pm, Occupy SF had re-occupied the space in front of 101 Market/Federal Reserve with tables and folks sleeping in sleeping bags (no tents). At the main encampment at Justin Herman/Bradley Manning Plaza, a “Tower of (seized) Power” had been built out of barricades, and all other barricades had been removed.
The encampment remains, but I did notice that the large white kitchen tent was gone, the kitchen now reduced to a few small tables (haven’t been by in awhile; could have happened when DPW raided last week).
From what I’ve heard on ustream so far, according to SFPD Deputy Chief of Operations Cashman, who has been acting as media spokesperson, there was a tent fire earlier today at Occupy SF, and later on a police officer was injured while putting up barricades (attempting to spin the encampment as dangerous).
A reporter questioned him about the safety of putting up the barricades in the presence of fire danger, which could potentially trap occupiers inside, and the officer said there would be “fire exits.” When someone standing nearby noted that the “fire exits” are not legal, the police spokesperson ended his interview.
Cashman reportedly stated there will be no raid tonight, but that’s the same thing LAPD said the other night (i.e. “Tonight” only means up until midnight).
